Each October, we shine the light on one of the deadliest diseases found in women by making this month Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s put this disease into perspective with some significant statistics on breast cancer in the United States:

• One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
• Breast cancer is the most common cancer for women.
• Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women.
• Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
• Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.

Get involved and help the cause by donating or volunteering your time. The Susan G. Komen Foundation helps aid the cause with events such as the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held throughout the country as well as fundraising efforts for research and development.
